Presentation of the technology

Interventional radiology is a minimally invasive therapeutic specialty where curative procedures are performed guided by radiological imaging tools. Oncological interventional radiology is a rapidly evolving, autonomous field of this more than 50-year-old field.

The explosive growth in this field over the past 35 years is due to the flexibility of interventional radiology, its ability to combine well with other therapies and its low-stress nature. Thermal ablation techniques include microwave ablation (MWA). Under this umbrella name, a number of procedures with similar designs but different physical basis are known. The thermal ablation technique involves the application of heat to the tumor by means of a needle, i.e. cooking/frying the heat-sensitive cells and tissues. They can be used in many areas.
